Sloan Optimix Anti-Scald Faucets

Sloan has just launched a new faucet line! Introducing Sloan Optimix Faucets, featuring anti-scald technology. This new technology has been added to some of Sloan’s most popular faucet models, creating new model variations that ensure a safe water temperature for each and every hand washing experience.

What is Optimix Technology?

Optimix technology is an integrated thermostatic mixing valve located within the faucet that mixes hot and cold water to create the perfect, not-too-hot and not-too-cold water temperature. The water is mixed as it goes through the spout of the faucet to provide comfortable and safe water temperatures at the sink for all patrons.

Setting the temperature:
The facility manager or end user controls the temperature of the water flowing out of the faucet by turning a small lever located on the right side of the faucet base. This control lever can be removed after setting the desired temperature in facilities where vandal-resistance is a priority.

ASSE 1070 Compliance:
Optimix Faucets are ASSE 1070 compliant. This remains true even in the event of a cold water failure.

Sloan Optimix Faucets

What Facility Types Need Anti-Scald Faucets?

Every public facility should provide safe water to patrons and employees. This is especially true in facilities where children, the elderly, and disabled individuals may be present. Schools, hospitals, and nursing homes should all be outfitted with anti-scald faucets. However, water that is too hot can scald anyone, not just children, the elderly, and disabled people. This is why we recommend anti-scald faucets be installed in all buildings, especially commercial facilities. Installing faucets like Optimix is an easy way to guarantee that every person using that faucet will be comfortable and safe.

Which Optima Faucets have Optimix Technology?

Optimix technology has been added to the following Sloan faucet models: the Optima EAF-200, 250, and 275. These new faucets are known as Optimix Faucets. These are all deck-mounted, mid body faucets. The EAF-200 is hardwired, the EAF-250 is battery-powered, and the EAF-275 is solar-powered.

What sets Optimix anti-scald faucets apart from other anti-scald options?

  • Lower Installation Costs. Since Optimix faucets include the thermostatic mixing valve within the faucet, the installation is simplified, reducing labor time and costs by up to 30%.
  • Safe water 100% of the time. Optimix faucets dispense comfortable water at all times, unlike regular faucets that may dispense water that is too hot, and therefore unsafe. This happens most often when cold water is running low. Optimix keeps water temperatures safe even when there is a cold water failure.
  • Durable and beautiful fixture design. Optima faucets are arguably Sloan’s best faucet model. They have been around for decades because they are built with the best materials (solid cast brass), and feature timeless designs that are aesthetically pleasing and have outstanding functionality in a wide variety of commercial applications.

Smart Faucets by Sloan: Optima Faucet New Technology

Introducing an update from Sloan that takes a flagship Sloan product – Optima faucets, and catapults it into the future with wireless connectivity, amongst other upgrades. This futuristic innovation improves the installation, service, and maintenance of Optima faucet fixtures. In this article, we delve into how new smart Optima faucets make facility managers jobs easier and more efficient, and improve a facility’s customer experience with better performing faucets. We also give you insight into Sloan’s app that connects to the faucets, enabling facility maintenance personnel to collect data and manage faucets remotely.

Optima Faucet Upgrades

The upgrades Sloan has made to it’s Optima faucet line are exceptional. Not only are the faucets now smart fixtures that connect to an app, but they also now come with standard mounting hardware, a longer sensor cable, and a quick connect spout hose. All of these updates reduce installation time for your faucet by 50% or more.

The new control box design is also simplified, with fewer cords and hoses, the addition of mounting slots (so no mounting plates and hardware are needed), and a newly patented dual-inlet filter fitting to filter and mix hot and cold water at once.

The updates above are valuable improvements as is, but Sloan didn’t stop there. The biggest upgrade Optima faucets received is making them smart faucets. New Optima faucets now contain technology that enables information from the faucets to be connected to a remote program. The program is an app created by Sloan that can be downloaded on any smartphone or tablet, which enables users to view information about the faucets remotely. This innovation brings faucets into the exciting and connected world of IoT* (Internet of Things).

*What is IoT, exactly? According to IoT Agenda, the Internet of Things, also known as IoT,  is “a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

What is a ‘Smart Faucet’ and how does it work?

A smart faucet is a faucet that connects to a system that can be accessed remotely. Essentially, new Optima faucets contain sensors that pair to the Sloan Connect® App. Facility managers then access this app through their smartphone or tablet. In Sloan Connect, they can collect data from the device, program the fixture, be alerted of malfunctions, and even adjust settings and set faucet timeouts remotely, all without any time spent below the deck of the faucet, a place no facility manager wants to spend very much time.

Some examples of data you can collect from the faucet using the app include the following:

  • How many times it has been activated
  • The current battery strength
  • When it was last activated
  • Water usage amounts
  • Estimated service schedules
  • Generate and share diagnostic reports with Sloan
  • Save notes about a site or faucet
  • Identify your faucet and access technical data

Information gathered through the app enables facility managers to draw very helpful conclusions. They can see when a unit will need a new battery or when a faucet will likely require new parts that need to be replaced over time. They can even deduce when there might be a unit that isn’t working by reading the data. Was there a busy time in a multi-faucet restroom with one unit that was not used during that time? That unit might be working properly. Is there a unit with very high water usage? That might indicate a leaky faucet. There is a ton of actionable information that can be collected through the app that makes servicing Optima faucets smarter.

Sloan Connect® App Features

Take a look at the app in the device screenshot below. See the bulleted list to learn some of the key features of the new Sloan Connect® App.

Sloan App
  • Adjust settings wirelessly – no deck disassembly or below-deck work
  • Select on-demand or metered activation
  • Set faucet timeouts
  • Activate line flush
  • Measure and report water usage
  • Check battery levels
  • Identify your faucet and access technical data
  • Generate and share diagnostic reports with Sloan
  • Save notes about the site or the faucet

Optimized Water Management

Let’s talk a little more about how this new generation of Optima faucets makes optimized water management easier. First, facility managers can adjust water setting wirelessly, making it so adjustments happen more often and when needed, since the despised below-deck work is no longer a necessary step to adjust faucet settings.  Through the app, facility managers can make the following water management adjustments:

  • Selecting on-demand or metered activation
  • Setting water-saving faucet timeouts
  • Activating line flushes to clear supply lines or drains
  • Measuring and reporting water usage

Smart Fixtures in Commercial Restroom Facilities

We live in an era of smart technology. Not only do most people in the United States carry around a mini computer with multiple camera lenses in their pockets, but they also wear prescription glasses that become shaded when they go outside, and utilize a device in their homes that plays music and even orders groceries through voice commands. These convenient and automated systems are found in all aspects of modern-day life. What is most important to understand as a person in the facility management or maintenance, is that these modern expectations do not end when it comes to commercial restroom facilities. In fact, this is where they are most expected.

The modern patron of today expects commercial restrooms to carry out more efficient and technologically advanced processes. Commercial restroom patrons take note of when a facility is ahead or most likely behind the curve of automated fixtures throughout their restroom facilities.

According to the Healthy Hand Washing Survey conducted by Bradley Corporation this year, 45% of Americans will operate a flush valve with their foot instead of their hand, so they don’t have to touch it. This tells us that unless sensor-operated fixtures are present, manual fixtures will be misused nearly half of the time, resulting in more broken fixtures, more maintenance and more repair parts needed to fix said misused fixtures. This is just one of the reasons why we recommend installing smart fixtures throughout your facility.

In this article, we will share some of our most popular and newly added smart fixtures in a few different categories: hands-free flushometers, sensor-activated faucets, sensor soap dispensers, and automated hand driers. Read one to see and learn more about our most popular fixtures in each category.

Sloan Sensor Flushometers

Complete Hands-Free Sensor Flushometers

When it comes to sensor activated flushometers, there are two ways to make the change: installing new complete flushometer units or retrofitting existing manual flushometers into sensor flushometers. Either one of these options enables touch-free sensor operation, so patrons will no longer touch or kick the handle to flush the toilet. Other benefits of sensor flushometers include a dual-flush design that flushes less water for liquid waste and more water for solid waste. This helps buildings become more water efficient and meet water-saving requirements for LEED certifications.

For new installations, complete flushometer kits like the units shown above will be purchased and installed. This is also a popular choice for restrooms that are updating to the new sensor flushometers when the fixtures are also being replaced at the same time, or when the old flushometers are completely outdated or overly worn, and need to be replaced entirely. Otherwise, facilities updating from manual to sensor flushometers will likely choose retrofit options like the retrofit flushometer parts shown below, which are the less expensive option.

Retrofit Flushometer Options

Retrofit Sensor Flushometer Kits

There are a variety of retrofit options available to convert your current manual operation flushometer into a sensor activated flushometer. Some options are easier than others. Side mount retrofit kits are the easiest options as they require the least amount of exchanged parts – mainly just replacing the handle with a side-mounted operator and a couple other replacement parts. Some of our most popular side-mount retrofit kits include the following Equiparts part numbers: #85605, #85606, and #08532. Other retrofit options include replacing the head of the flushometer with a new G2 retrofit kit (like the #08700) so you can use some of the units preexisting vacuum breaker and replace select parts.

*Whether you are replacing your complete flushometer or taking the retrofit route, remember that one of the benefits of working with us at Equiparts is that as a distributor of all of the top flushometer manufacturers, we will help you choose the right solution for your needs out of all the options available. Call us for help choosing the right sensor flushometers or retrofit parts for your restrooms.

Sloan Automatic Faucets

Sensor Activated Automatic Faucets

Sensor activated faucets automatically distribute water when hands are sensed in the faucet area. This enables users to wash their hands without touching a faucet. It also makes it nearly impossible to leave a faucet running due to its sensor activated operation. There are a variety of easy to install sensor operated faucets available today. The faucets shown in the montage above are just some of the Sloan automatic faucet options. We carry all Sloan faucets, as well as automatic faucets from other manufacturers as well. Note that all units shown here are battery operated automatic faucets.

Learn the differences between the models shown above or learn about even more automatic faucet options by calling in and speaking to one of our product specialists.

Sensor Operated Soap Dispensers

Sensor Operated Soap Dispensers

Sloan recently came out with a new line of matching sensor-operated soap dispensers that match their existing automatic faucets. Sink mounted soap dispensers are a great option because they keep the soap within the sink, instead of on the counter or wall, where soap tends to build up and require more maintenance. We also like how Sloan designed these soap dispensers to match their faucets.

Give us a call to learn more about new sensor operated soap dispensers by Sloan.

Automatic Hand Dryers

Automatic Hand Dryers

Especially after washing one’s hands, public restroom users try their hardest not to touch anything in the restroom. Automatic hand dryers help patrons easily dry their hands without touching anything, and also without paper towels, something that creates unnecessary paper waste and also requires more maintenance. At Equiparts, we sell over 100 different types of hand dryers by a variety of manufacturers including ASI, AJW, Bobrick, Excel, Sloan, Xlerator, World Dryer, and more.

Call us to learn more about our automatic air dryer solutions and find the right air dryer for your facility’s restrooms.

Creating a Hands-Free, Sensor Operated Experience

In today’s world, there are sensor operated options for all of the major fixtures in a restroom. It is not uncommon to use a public restroom with sensor operated flushometers, automatic faucets, sensor soap dispensers, and a sensor operated hand dryer. Now is the time to switch from manual operation to touch-free, sensor operated fixtures. They will help you save water, energy, and time with less maintenance, and smarter technology.

Speaking of maintenance, we also carry a large variety of cleaning supplies designed to keep restrooms clean, because nobody likes to use a dirty restroom that might be harboring germs and bacteria. Here are 3 of our most popular restroom and drain cleaners and disinfectant foggers:

Crystal Drain Cleaner
Our non-acid drain opener clears drains in minutes. It totally destroys hair and grease, clearing drain pipes of organic debris that slow drainage. The Benefits of Oxygenated Shower Heads

The Benefits of Oxygenics Shower Heads make them a no-brainer for all situations, in both residential and commercial applications. These high-performance showerheads are water efficient and also improve user shower experience.

• Supercharging Water with oxygen gets the absolute most out of each drop, making the most efficient use of available resources.

• Adding Oxygen to water is like filling up a balloon with air. It makes the water droplets expand so they come out of the shower heads larger and wider, covering more of you when you shower.

• The Mixture of oxygen and water that occurs in an Oxygenics shower head creates an effect like a jet engine, blasting away dirt and odor with incredible strength.

Anti-Clog properties like Delrin nonstick internal components and the single flow design helps stop clogs like calcium build up from occurring, a common problem in areas with hard, mineral-rich water.

New Showerhead Technology Delivers Power AND Efficiency

Oxygenics showerheads bring you great water pressure while saving water at the same time. They use only 1.5 gallons of water per minute, a whopping 1 GPM less than the maximum the US government mandates (2.5 GPM). Oxygenics showerheads do this without sacrificing pressure. Here’s how:

The Oxygenics Engine: It’s what drives these shower heads. Originally developed in 1981, it has been perfected over three decades to make the most of the available water resources and give you a powerful, water saving shower experience at any pressure.

1. Pressure Chamber: Water is introduced into a pressure chamber that works like a mini-turbine jet, increasing water velocity.

2. Air Vacuum: Water passes through an air vacuum at high speed, infusing oxygen into each drop.

3. Spray Head: The pressurized combination of water and oxygen is released through an expanding nozzle, widening coverage and greatly increasing water power.
